을까요/ ㄹ까요 grammar lesson

Minjo is wondering what Jina will be doing on the weekend. 민조씨가 지나 씨에게 주말에 무엇을 할지 의견을 물어봅니다
민조: 주말에 뭘 할까요? What do you do at the weekend?
지나: 우리 영화 볼까요? Should we watch the movie?
민조: 좋아요. 주말에 같이 영화 봐요. good. We will watch a movie together on the weekend.
Above conversation has today’s grammar in the form of 할까요 and 볼까요.
(으)ㄹ까요 grammar is used after the verb stem and 을까요/ ㄹ까요 is used to find out another person’s opinion or to find out other person’s suggestion.
을까요/ ㄹ까요 grammar conjugation
We have to remove 다 from the basic verb.
After removing 다 from basic verb we have to add (으)ㄹ까요. Now these words become
When to use 을까요/ ㄹ까요 grammar
If a verb stem has final consonant (받침), we have to use 을까요. For example
After removing 다, the verb 먹다 has ㄱ받침 (ㄱ final consonant) so we have to add 을까요.
먹다 becomes 먹을까요.
If a verb stem has no final consonant (받침), we have to use ㄹ까요. For example
After removing 다, the verb 보다 has no 받침 (final vowel) so we have to add ㄹ까요.
보다 becomes 볼까요.
‘ㄹ’ 불규칙 case
If a verb has final consonant in the form of ㄹ we have to use ㄹ까요. For example-
After removing 다 from 만들다, the verb has ㄹ consonant at the last, So 만들다 becomes 만들까요.

In summary, if a verb has final consonant we have to use 을까요. For example 먹다 + 을까요 = 먹을까요.
If a verb has no final consonant we have to use ㄹ까요. For example 보다 + ㄹ까요 = 볼까요.
When someone questions using 을까요/ ㄹ까요 the answer would be in the form of 아요/어요. Let’s learn this from example

지나: 좋아요. 영화 봐요.
Another feature of this grammar is that the subject of this grammar is usually in the form of us (우리).
을까요/ ㄹ까요 grammar practice
Let’s remove 다 from the root word. The remaining part is 웃 which has final consonant in the form of ㅅ. According to the rule we have to add 을까요.so 웃다 becomes 웃을까요.
